Even more breeders nowadays ask new owners to sign a contract when they place one of their kittens.
This in order to avoid possible misunderstandings between breeder and owner and, above all, to protect the kitten's health and to provide it a long and happy life for as long as possible. Apart from the financial arrangements (which can be written or not) it is always advisable to come to an agreement and to give certain guarantees for the future of the kitten.
This is important, above all, if the kitten is destined to become a breeder or a show cat. But certain rules also exist for the so called "pets" and it is always advisable to follow them in any case.I strongly suggest all interested in buying a kitten from a Cattery to always ask for such a "contract" or something of this kind, in order to avoid any possible problems in the future and to be able to feel less stressed in the special moment when deciding about adding a new little creature to the family.
Also the Breeders, for the sake of their kittens, should in my opinion, follow this method.
Hereby is the "Contract Pledge" which I use for my kittens.
All my kittens are placed under the terms of this contract. Not only. If a kitten is sold as "breeder" the new owner will have to promise that the future generations will be placed by the terms of this same contract.

THE CONTRACT

The following agreement is between:
Donatella Mastrangelo, responsbile for JADEYE Korat Cattery (approved and registered by FIFe and ANFI)
and Mr./Mrs...................................................................
and are about a Korat kitten from Jadeye Cattery of sex............... that will be given to the new owner according to what is specified below.

The breeder and the purchaser hereby agree on the followings:

1. the breeder guarantees that the kitten is out of GM Gangliosidosis tested negative parents and therefore, non-carrier for both GMs.
2. if the kitten is a male, the purchaser will give him as stud only after the breeder's agreement. This future stud will be only used with GM tested negative Korat queens;
3. if the kitten is a female, the purchaser will give her a stud only after the breeder's agreement. This future queen will only use a GM tested negative Korat as stud;
4. if the two previous points won't be respected by the purchaser, this will pay the breeder a fee fixed in € (Euro) 1.000,00.
5. if the kitten is not for breeding, the purchaser will spay/neruter it at the due time and after the operation will provide the breeder with the vet certificate attesting the operation;
6. the kitten will be delivered after its fourth month of age accompained with the Vaccination Certificates;
7. if, for any reason, the breeder won't be able to deliver the kitten, the breeder itself will give all the money received in account back to the purchaser;
8. if the purchaser would withdraw from the agreement signed today all the money given in account will remain to the breeder;
9. This kitten is guaranteed healthy and free from genetic or hereditary health problems for one year. If this kitten proves unhealthy or ill or should die due to complications from any serious health problem inherent to the breed or genetic line or hereditary makeup which is unknown at the time of sale, then the kitten orginally purchased will be repalaced with a kitten from another breeding wich is not-related to the original.
10. if the kitten, after the delivery to the purchaser, proves unhealthy or ill from any other health problem wich is not genetic or hereditary, the breeder won't accept any request for replacement or reimbursement; if the purchaser will want a new kitten, a new sales contract will be done, according to the cattery's availability.

The new owner of this Korat pladges that,

1. will advice the breeder named above if, for any reason, he/she cannot keep this Korat;
2. will not sell or give this Korat away without the knowledge and consent of the breeder;
3. will not allow this Korat to run loose and unprotected;
4. will not assign this Korat to, or sell it through, a pet shop or animal dealer;
5. will breed this Korat only with cats of the same breed, registered by official LO registries of any of the feline associations recognized by FIFe;
6. will not use for breeding a so-called Korat whose ancestry cannot be traced to Thailand;
7. will not permit breeding of this Korat with another breed with intent to present the offspring as Korat;
8. will maintain the good health of, and provide a happy life for this cat. Will not have this Korat declawed;
9. will regularly submit this Korat to veterinary check (at least once a year) and keep the necessary vaccinations updated;
10. will not assign this Korat to any university, research institution, hospital or laboratory for any kind of experiments;
11. all Korats born as a result of a mating of this Korat will be sold/placed under the terms of this pledge;
12. (if pet) will neuter/spay this cat at due time and will provide the breeder with the vet certificate

The breeder hereby guarantees that this Korat:

1. comes from a FIFe registered Cattery, member of the Italian National Feline Association (ANFI)
2. is of proven Thai ancestry; is officially registered at the Italian LO registry with the LOI n..................
3. has been handled with love since birth;
4. has been vaccinated on..................... and examined by a veterinary on............... and has been found to be free of worms, fleas, earmites and fungus and of any other infection;
5. doesn't carry any known genetic or hereditary disease which could compromise its fisical or mental health;
6. is GM tested negative as the result of the parent's GM gene status.
7. (if pet) will provide the new owner with the "transfer of ownership" of this cat after getting the vet certification attesting that this cat has been neutered/spayed.
8. (if for show) the breeder cannot guarantee, anyway, the show success of this cat at catshows
